Thattai or Thattu vadai

Makes –  50 thattais

Preparation time: 30 mins

cooking Time: 1 hour

ingredients:

Idli rice  – 2 cups

Red Chillies – 15

Salt  – to taste

Oil – 25 ml to add to the batter and more to fry

Curry leaves – half cup

Channa Dhaal – 2tbs

Asafoetida – 1tsp powder or

Pottu kadalai – 1 cup ground to powder

Procedure:

Soak Rice for 3 hours

soak channa dhal for 30 mins

Grind the soaked rice in a grinder with very little water along with red chillies, salt. and asafoetida. Take it out when it is a bit coarse. Add powdered pottu kadalai, curry leaves and soaked channa dhaal and 25ml oil to make a smooth dough just like we make for chappathi.

Make small balls from the dough and flatten it with your middle 3 fingers on a oil greased polythene sheet and fry it in oil until the bubbles fade away.
